Review of the Week

This week I am writing my piece lying down. This is not a bit like me. I have been fighting a cold for a few days now and on Wednesday completely lost my voice for a few hours. It hasn’t really come back, which meant that rehearsal for the latest G & S show had to be missed last night.

This week I am sure many things have happened in the world that are far more important than those in my small world. I had time to notice, on Saturday, that there has been another monumental earthquake, this one in Chile. My grand-daughter, who was with me for the show (see later in this piece) with the wisdom of an eleven-year-old remarked that there seemed to be more of this sort of thing happening nowadays.

 This week in England has been Half Term. For those who are reading this from outside the UK, this is a mid-term holiday which give teachers and students alike a break from their studies. You may have noticed, over the weeks, that I am not really an optimist. Don’t misunderstand: I’m not a pessimist either. I just try really hard to see things as they are and deal with them as they occur. This week I am feeling different.

It has been an exciting and inspiring week for me, starting with a meeting at which I met many of those who are putting Champions Club on its feet. A new redesigned web-site is almost ready to go, great plans area afoot and the stalwarts who have been doing all the work developing this organisation are beginning to sense that fruition is just around the corner

This week, despite all my misgivings and reservations, and after what seems like endless discussion with myself, I am delighted to say that my lovely, and still surprising, man is moving in with me. I do not envy him this task. I have been alone now for eight years and learning to be both self-sufficient and self-centred.

Is is possible to write about the week that has just passed without mentioning the weather? Should I try? Would there be any virtue in trying to ignore what everyone else is talking about? And when I have completely isolated myself from the human race - what then?

This week I am going to try to be a little less personal, though, as you can imagine if you read me regularly, there is a lot going on here. However, wherever you go in the world, this seems to be an important week. It doesn’t matter whether . . . . .
